National Sports Day is a public holiday celebrated in various countries to honour the national sports teams and sports traditions of those countries.On this day people from different age groups take part in sports like kabaddi, marathon, basketball, hockey etc.
The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.
After putting his stamp on international hockey arena, and having served his country to reach its pinnacles of glory multiple times. He is a legendary figure in the Indian and world hockey. The most noted memorials for him is the Major Dhyan Chand Award ,the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games in India , and the National Sport day celebrations on his birthday. Major Dhyan chand learnt the game of hockey from his coach Pankaj Gupta. There is no who has reached his level in hockey. The birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand is on 29 August 1905.

Accommodation
At Sundar Gram, we have 05 double bedrooms and 02 family rooms for guests. Decked with all modern facilities like 24 hours electricity, attached western bathrooms, hot water arrangements, large comfy beds. Mini fridge, sitting arrangements and a nice verandah for you to gaze at the lush paddy fields stretching beyond. Most of our rooms are double bed cottages with arrangements for extra beds. We also have separate driver's accommodation.

Paddy fields swaying in the wind, farmers tilling their lands, village elders gossiping under the Banyan tree, fishermen pulling up their nets and you are sitting in the verandah of your mud house witnessing the village life unfolding before you. But this is no “artificial village resort” with manicured lawns – it is Sundar Gram in Rajendrapur – a small village just 35 kilometers from Kolkata, where its residents still live a life “lost in time.”
At Sundar Gram, we have 5 rooms, few gazebos, one pond, an open-air dining hall, durga mandap (kheyal), lots of greenery and untouched village life. However, we did not forget to provide our guests with the much-needed facilities that make our lives little comfortable like electricity, attached western bathrooms with hot water arrangements, 24 hours water supply, night watchman (chowkidar) and comfy and cushy extra – large beds.
Sundar Gram completely blends with the life of the villagers. Here, the villagers and guests come together to celebrate Durga Puja, children come to take tuition classes from their teacher “Didimoni” in the evenings and the local village boy proudly demonstrates to the guests the subtle techniques of catching “Mourala” fish with a “Gamcha“.
