The strawman fallacy is a common fallacy that occurs when a person oversimplifies or distorts another person's claim in order show that it's a ridiculous or negative take, and therefore should be readily dismissed.
A blatant example of the straw man fallacy occurred in an interview between Cathy Newman and Jordan Peterson--where Cathy employed this tactical fallacy in order to discredit Dr. Peterson.
