I have decided for the next 2.5 – 3 years, I am going to help people build up a wine cellar by providing a cellar selection each month. Each bottle I will choose will be under $40 and will have aging potential I have done this for many friends and clients and with the multitude of misinformation (even to do with wines!), I am going to give you my views on wine. I think if you follow my recommendations for the next 2.5-3 years, you will build a pretty nice cellar of wines. Many of my friends and clients have thanked me for wines I recommended in the past that I don’t even remember or I have drunk all of my bottles!

Caveat: this is for people who are interested in building up a long term cellar of wines that they can drink for many years. These selections may need some aging so you will need patience and although some of them will drink nicely right away, many will need the 2.5- 3 years of ageing or longer. But if you follow my recommendations, you will build a very well balanced, nice drinking cellar for not that much money.

My recommendation for this month is the M. Chapoutier 2020 Crozes Hermitage Les Meysonniers. This is a Northern Rhone (France) red wine. Typically Northern Rhone wines are more expensive that Southern Rhone wines but I struggle to understand why this wine consistently gets very high scores and never goes up in price. M. Chapoutier has been producing wine for over 200 years. Perhaps they are so focused on their higher end wines that they have not seen how much of a steal this wine is! It is made with 100% Syrah grapes from 25 year old vines. Aged 12 months, 85% in concrete tanks and 15% in barrels so it is not going to be overly oaked. You are going to get black fruit and some floral elements. I always found Croze Hermitage wines a bit smokey on the nose and almost like a molasses/tar aftertaste. You won’t get the same jammy fruit that you will see in Australian Shiraz wines as this is a different expression of the grape varietal. 93 pts Wine Spectator and drink until 2030. Only 45 cases (600 bottles) exported to the US so I can’t see why you wouldn’t buy a limited supply, excessively over performing wine. Best thing is that it is actually on sale this month at BC Liquor Stores from $29.99 to $25.99. I would add between 2-6 bottles to your cellar, depending on your financial situation. You can drink right away to taste and then the rest you can approach again in the 3 years.

I did a review of a previous vintage of this wine below. It is a terribly amateurish video as it was one of the first videos I made on my Youtube channel so just close your eyes or listen to it and focus on the content. I will do an updated review of this wine this year to replace this review and to let you know what this wine should taste like in 4 years.
