SESSION 1: From Flesh to Fashion
What to wear, what not to wear? – That is the question. Consider how nudity and dress matter to the history of art. From scenes of Madonna and Child nursing, to the mythological garden of Venus, degrees of nudity in art vary from the sacred to the secular. Meanwhile costume, both modest and extravagant in portraiture, could be used to indicate social status as much as subversion of social norms.
