Our off-trail peakbagging adventure to Gunsight Peak along the Selkirk Crest in North Idaho. Gunsight Peak, so named for the notched double summit, sits in view of Priest Lake to the west and the Pack River valley to the East. To the north along the Crest is Mount Roothaan and Chimney Rock and to the South is Hunt Peak and Fault Lake. At 7,352' it towers over Hunt Lake in the basin 1500' below to the west. Gunsight has an impressive north face visible when looking south from Chimney Rock and Mount Roothaan. There are no trails in to the area and all approaches require miles of bushwhacking, scrambling, and technical route finding.
Please remember to recreate Responsibly. Know your limits! Some of these hikes depicted require technical skills and wilderness experience. Practice Outdoor Ethics including Leave-No-Trace and Tread Lightly to avoid damaging these last few remaining wild and beautiful places. If you can't - then please, PLEASE, stay at home and watch YouTube videos instead.
