After months of skirmishes it seems like yesterday an inevitable serious battle between these 2 mighty lion coalitions has finally occurred. The stakes were higher this time as there was a lioness in oestrus involved that was with the 3 Gomondwane males.
While we were watching the 3 Gomondwane males with the lioness, the 2 Shishangeni males arrived out of nowhere and chased the Gomondwane males who initially retreated a few times however they eventually went in and confronted the Shishangeni males. We could hear an intense battle deep in the bush and then what sounded like the sound of a lion in distress.
Due to the fight occurring deep in the bush, the outcome of the fight is still uncertain however after about an hour 2 of the 3 Gomondwane males emerged roaring and marking territory with a lot of blood on their faces and legs.
The full story will hopefully come to light in the next few weeks but it may be the beginning of the end of the legendary Shishangeni males reign...time will tell.
