Your retaining wall should be back-filled to allow for maximum drainage as when building a retaining wall, we don't only hold back the soil we also hold back the water that has soaked into the ground.
Backfilling is needed to drain this water away from your wall to prevent hydrostatic pressure building up which will eventually cause your wall to fail.
To ensure the longevity of your retaining wall you will need proper drainage which will include: agpipe, 25mm drainage gravel and bidim.
