This electric motor device was designed and built by Robert and Roger Clyne in the 1940's to convert pull-pipe trap machines to cock, change angle and throw targets electrically by push button control.
The device was first used at the Grand American Trapshoot in 1948. Over the years it was used to modify several different makes of trap machines.
The Western Automatic Trap was cocked and released by a pull-pipe located behind the 26-yard line. The angles were controlled by the setter with a pipe on the machine. The Western trap shown in the video was introduced in 1926 and featured the self-angling base that could be purchased separately to upgrade existing machines.
