KATE SPADE SHOWS CITY GIRL-CHIC AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
Deborah Lloyd said she wanted to pay homage to those who "dream big" with her fall Kate Spade New York collection presented Friday (12 FEB 2016) at the Rainbow Room.
"I've been here a few times and I've always wanted to have a show here because we're such a classic New York brand and so to have a presentation in such an amazing, iconic New York spot and look at the view. Couldn't be more New York than this. So it felt like centerstage for what we're presenting today, which is really a collection that I was inspired by those amazing sort of divas and firebrands of the stage. So whether it's Nina Simone or Marlena Dietrich, or sort of Sade from the 80s or some amazing ballet dancers, all of these artistic influences came together for this collection," she said.
The feminine line included flowing, colorful frocks, high-waisted trousers and cozy pea coats. Bows adorned collars and coats with touches of lace and fur on blouses and hats. The models posed in the center of the grand room and rotated on a circular stage.
"I'm a huge fan of Kate Spade," said "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" star Ellie Kemper. "I love fashion. I sometimes find fashion intimidating. What I like about Kate Spade is I feel like she puts forth a sort of aspirational line, which I think 'oh I want to be like that! I want to be chic! I want to be a pulled together New York lady.' And then I can!"
Starlets Freida Pinto, Zosia Mamet, Jamie Chung and Jaime King also attended the winter presentation.
King discussed tackling fashion week with two young children at home.
"Oh my god. It's so hard because I have so many shows and I'm like freaking out! It's hard because I style myself so I do it all directly with the designers. A lot of people have stylists do things for them. So I don't have that and then I have children, which on top of that you know a six-month-old and a two-year-old. So it's a lot! I FaceTimed them in the car on the way here, I try to make sure everybody's up for school, but you know I couldn't ask for anything better," she said.
