Crusty old miner gets busted dredging for gold after Moratorium in effect in California. This guy is giving small scale miners a bad name, mainly by being a slob and littering up the place, though I am all for dredging and mining. A side note: these fish, swimming sideways in footage at the beginning, had been used on several other segments of this hour long National Geographics tv series. Watch the full episode and see for yourself. Mining was not the cause of these dying fish.
It's funny how you can't do today, what had founded this "Golden State" of California over a hundred years ago. Modern gold mining techniques are no where near as destructive or disturbing as the old mining practices had been. Dredgers are pulling pounds of toxic mercury out of the waterways and while cleaning off the rocks of the riverbed, are suspending food back in the water for fish to eat. The hole that is being dredged is also providing shelter for fish to swim into (when the dredger is not in it), to get out of the strong current. The cobbles from dredging also provide spawning places or redds for the fish to lay their eggs into.
This moratorium is taking the wealth away from the people in the long run, not just the miner digging the gold out of the ground, but every U.S. citizen..
