Anterior compartment
Nerves within the compartment: deep peroneal nerve (numbness in the first web space).
Muscles within the compartment :
•Tibialis anterior
•Extensor hallucis longus
•Extensor digitorum longus.
Lateral compartment
Nerves within the compartment: superficial peroneal nerve (numbness over the dorsum of the foot).
Muscles within the compartment:
•Peroneus longus
•Peroneus brevis
Superficial posterior compartment
Nerves within the compartment: sural nerve (numbness on the lateral border of the foot).
Muscles within the compartment
•Gastrocnemius-soleus complex.
Deep posterior compartment
Nerves within the compartment: tibial nerve (numbness over the plantar aspect of the foot).
Muscles within the compartment :
•Tibialis posterior
•Flexor digitorum longus
•Flexor hallucis longus.
Pressure measurement
Pressure equal to or greater than 30 mmHg is a sign of impending compartment syndrome.
