The Aboriginal people have the oldest oral tradition in the world!
Hello folks, It’s reconciliation week and I would like to respectfully acknowledging the Wadjuk people of the Nyungar nation as the traditional owners of the land on which @CurtinUniversity Perth, where I work, is located.
To this occasion, I’ve made a special episode of 1P~1M where I revisit a study we published last year in Geology with Erin Matchan David Phillips and Korien Oostingh. Through volcano age dating, we established an age of 37 thousand years for both a story telling tradition and an archeological artifact from the Gunditjmara people in present day Victoria.

The discovery was welcome by the Gunditjmara people as explained by Damein Bell, from Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation “the Gunditjmara community welcomes the new study, which highlights the deep links they have with their country.”

Check the 1P~1M video below, (slightly longer than usual for this occasion.) which is a brief rundown of the paper.
