A difficult condition arises when retro installing a retrofit model 500 Dryerbox in a wall. The angle that is needed to initially start penetration of the rigid pipe into the Dryerbox port, creates annoying resistance. In the past we recommended crimping the end of the pipe, then we suggested cutting the duct flush with the top and adding a collar.
At present we are a fan of a customer’s suggestion to use a guide tool made from a piece of rigid duct, like a shoe horn. It is about 8” long by about a 5” conformed to the shape of the port in the Dryerbox.
As you read in the directions, cut the duct pipe about 2” below the cut-out for the Dryerbox. As you initialize the guiding of this pipe through the port, put the guide tool through the back of the oval and slide the box into the drywall cutout until you have some of the front of the duct protruding through the oval and the back of the duct resting against the guide.
Wedge the back of the duct forward until it is flush with the port. This will force the back of the duct to deform to the shape of the oval and the front of the duct to do the same. Next, work the Dryerbox into the cutout and adjust the duct through the oval as needed. Once the back side of the duct is through the oval you can remove the guide tool.
