Film stars Julie Christie and Julie Walters examine biases in the media in the UK with examples.
Explodes the myth that we in this country are all equally well served by our broadcasting services. It argues that the media favours the white male, middle class establishment and that those who do not fit into this mould have a struggle to be heard. It challenges the broadcasters' claim to impartiality in their news and current affairs coverage. It also includes interviews with Anthony Barnett on the media during the Falklands War, Tony Benn, Steve Foley a train driver and ASLEF member and Ken Livingstone, leader of the Greater London Council. The programme concludes with a revealing insight into some of the murkier antics of the gutter press.
Made in 1983 this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless. The film quality may not be to modern standards.
