UNESCO marked the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust with a ceremony at UNESCO headquarters on 26 January 2023. Director-General Audrey Azoulay was joined by the President of the Memorial de la Shoah, Mr Eric de Rothschild, and composer Jorge Grundman whose work Shoah was performed by violinist Mr Robert Davidovici. The event featured the testimony of Ms Isabelle Choko, President of the Union of Auschwitz Survivors, France.
Every year around 27 January, UNESCO pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945. Learn more: [ Ссылка ]
