More than 50 million children under 5 years of age have a developmental disability, such as intellectual disability, autism, hearing impairment or speech disorder. Most children with developmental disabilities do not have access to the care they need and are often denied access to school and are more likely to experience violence, neglect and other forms of abuse. Their caregivers are often stigmatized and isolated. WHO, with Autism Speaks and other partners, has developed a training programme for caregivers.
