In this video Jared Houliston from Ontario Wildlife Removal Inc. came across a turtle on the the side of the road that needed help crossing, and when he picked it up he found it was infested with smooth turtle leeches!
Leeches are generally not harmful to turtles, and leeches are a typical source of food for them. If there's only a few leeches on the turtle it won't be too bothered, but large infestations can become burdensome.
The turtle in this video is called a Midland Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta marginata). Midland Painted turtles have an olive and black upper shell with red or dark orange markings, with red and yellow stripes on the head and neck.
