The much anticipated ban on the import of Russian enriched uranium passed in the senate on Tuesday with unanimous approval. The ban will bar US imports of Russian nuclear fuel 90 days after enactment, and saw US and Canadian uranium miners spike on the news. It also frees up the $2.7 billion in funding for US domestic uranium production. The measure aims to reduce reliance on foreign sources of vital materials, but there are concerns Russia could preemptively respond by cutting of supplies now, causing unanticipated disruption.
