Three college friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev face accusations of conspiring to obstruct justice by concealing and destroying evidence.
Investigators say they removed a backpack containing hollowed-out fireworks from Tsarnaev's dorm room at the University of Massachusetts, three days after the attack to keep him from getting into trouble.
Authorities allege that the defendants went to the room after the FBI released surveillance-camera photos of the bombing suspects.
Lawyers for Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov said on Wednesday that their clients did not know they were tampering with evidence, and fully cooperated with investigators after the bombings.
In court papers, the FBI said that about a month before the bombing, Tsarnaev told Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev that he knew how to make a bomb.
