A commemoration has taken place in Cobh in Co Cork today to mark the 80th anniversary of the deaths of five sailors who died on active duty in Cork harbour. The five local men died following the collision of two small launches with the propeller of the merchant ship, the Irish Poplar, during stormy weather conditions.
