The short trip from Mammoth Hot Springs to Yellowstone's north entrance passes the halfway point between the equator and the North Pole, plus the Boiling River, as well as a great location for checking out bighorn sheep!
In addition to the Upper and Lower Terraces, Mammoth Hot Springs is home to historic Fort Yellowstone.
The Boiling River is where the remnants of a hot spring from Mammoth Hot Springs flow into the Gardiner River, and is the only place in all of Yellowstone where you're allowed into a hot spring!
There is a sign marking the 45th Parallel, halfway between the equator and the North Pole, just past the Boiling River parking lot. Here's a local's tip! Stand with your back to the sign, and look up at the hills in front of you, a little to the left, and you may see bighorn sheep, which frequent Yellowstone's Northern Range!
The Roosevelt Arch is just outside Yellowstone, in the small town of Gardiner, Montana.
