But not everyone knows that it's also a decoding powerhouse, supporting VP9, HEVC, and H.264 decoders.
Some engineers rightfully ask, "I know the VPU can handle the capacity, but what about the server?"
Here are the numbers:
The bitrate for a 1080p30 YUV 4:2:0, 8-bit per channel video stream is approximately 746.5 Mbps. For 64 channels of HD video, the total bitrate would be around 47.8 Gbps.
Using one Quadra T2A or two Quadra T1Us, the traffic gets split across two chips, each utilizing four lanes of PCIe Gen 4, providing a total bandwidth of 128 Gbps.
This means the overall PCIe Gen 4 bandwidth utilization rate for 64 HD channels is 37%.
Want more headroom? Switch to a PCIe Gen 5 system, and the utilization rate will drop to 18.5%, half that of the Gen 4.
The punch line: Using PCIe Gen 4 or Gen 5 servers with NETINT Quadra VPUs unlocks decoding densities that efficiently handle huge decoding volumes.
