Howie Mandel, a judge on "America's Got Talent," recently shared a terrifying experience during his appearance on "LIVE with Kelly and Mark." While recounting a trip to Las Vegas with his wife of over 40 years, Terry, Mandel revealed the details of a bizarre and alarming accident that took place.
The couple, enjoying a night out in Las Vegas, decided to let loose and party. "We partied," Mandel began. "It was too much. And [Terry] was tipsy. I did not know that, and in the middle of the night she got up and, I don't know where she was headed, but she headed into the wall."
In the middle of the night, Terry, disoriented from the evening's festivities, got out of bed and walked straight into a wall. The impact caused her to hit the wainscoting as she fell, leading to a cascade of injuries. "She fell and hit the wainscoting. She hit that as she went down. She slipped, went down, hit that on her eye, then fell on the floor, and broke her cheek," Mandel explained.
The noise of the fall and Terry's cries of pain woke Mandel. "I heard ‘bang’ and ‘ahh' and I woke up and I went, ‘Where are you?’ And she went ‘I don’t know.' That's what she said," he recalled. Turning on the light, he discovered Terry lying face down in the corner of the room, with blood pooling around her head. "I freaked out. I picked her up, I put her on the bed. There's blood everywhere. I went and grabbed all the towels, and all the towels are covered with blood. And she's going ‘Get me ice. Get me ice,'" Mandel described.
In a state of panic and unable to find ice, Mandel grabbed a cold soda can from the hotel's minibar and placed it on her head, only for Terry to throw it across the room. He then tried covering two cans with a towel, but Terry reacted the same way. "When she did that, I saw her head, and you could actually see her skull. It opened up," he said, eliciting gasps from the audience. "I freaked."
Mandel contacted hotel security, asking them to call 911, but they insisted on coming to the room first. Ultimately, he took Terry to the hospital himself, where she received immediate medical attention for her injuries.
Despite the severity of the accident, Mandel reassured hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Conseulos, and the audience, that Terry has made a full recovery. "She is absolutely perfect," he said. "There is not a scar. She is beautiful."
The ordeal, while horrifying, concluded with a positive outcome, showing the resilience and strength of Terry and the quick-thinking response of Howie Mandel.
