A Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) Start of Agent Operations event was held May 29, 2019 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Richmond, Kentucky. With keynote speaker, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, along with Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and both Army and Department of Defense officials, this event and ribbon cutting commemorates the start of agent destruction operations at the plant. The BGCAPP facility and the Blue Grass Static Detonation Chamber are scheduled to begin agent destruction operations in 2019.
More than 500 tons of mustard and nerve agent in rockets and projectiles have been safely stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot while awaiting destruction. Plant managers and the workforce are prepared to begin safe operations. The U.S. chemical weapons stockpile will be destroyed by Dec. 31, 2023, the congressionally mandated destruction deadline.
BGCAPP is a state-of-the-art facility that will safely destroy the chemical weapons stockpile currently in storage at the Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond, Kentucky. For more information, visit the BGCAPP homepage on the ACWA website: [ Ссылка ]
