According to the American Cancer Association, the average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13 percent, or about 1 out of every 8 women. Kerri Nowell, MD, FACS, general surgeon at PCI, discusses many of the questions women frequently ask prior to cancer surgery. Often, patients who are eligible, are able to have reconstructive surgery on the same day, with both procedures being "outpatient" or not requiring an overnight stay in the hospital.
