MP4 is a very universal video format for playing video, and is great foe sharing and uploading to some video sharing sites and social media you need them in the MP4 format. They are also a reasonable file size. So if you have those Flash files (FLV) or those QuickTime ones that end in MOV there VLC is a free option for converting these files. It is also a great video player too especially if you find videos that won't play on your usual video player.
