Since 2013, senior military leaders have repeatedly warned of a military readiness crisis. Fueled by defense budget cuts and a continually high pace of operations, each service struggles to keep up with the demands of day-to-day operations and prepare for future challenges. The effect can be seen in the Air Force’s need to raid scrapyards in search of parts, the Navy’s inability to maintain a constant aircraft carrier presence in the Middle East, and the Army’s struggle to supply its soldiers with the vehicles they need to complete their training.
Please join AEI for a discussion with Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), the new chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Readiness, on the readiness challenge and how Congress can remedy it.
