Crews began clearing a large homeless encampment located in a wooded area between Interstate 5 and Harborview Medical Center Thursday morning, less than a week after the encampment exploded in flames.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) issued an emergency order to remove the encampment due to "significant criminal activity" and the risk to people at the hospital and drivers on I-5 in downtown Seattle.
Last week's explosion was the result of a bombing connected to control of the drug trade in the encampment, according to a police report obtained by KOMO News.
