About the series:
As an extension of the World Music Heritage Series conceived and produced by maestro Bhai Baldeep Singh for Anād Records, the YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series aims to celebrate excellence in the field of music, arts, dance, theatre, and literature. The YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series marks the 550th birth anniversary of Gurū Nānak Dēv, the first gurū of the Sikhs.
Il maestro:
Roberto Prosseda is an Italian pianist and music educator. Over the course of a decade, he recorded the complete piano works of Mendelssohn for Decca, finishing in 2014. In the process, Prosseda made European headlines for his discovery of previously unknown works by Mendelssohn and earned a reputation as one of Mendelssohn’s finest living interpreters. He regularly performs with top orchestras across the world, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, and Moscow State Philharmonic. Prosseda also recorded Mozart’s complete piano sonatas, and as a global ambassador for Italian composers, has recorded the complete piano oeuvres of Petrassi and Dallapiccola. Since 2011, he has given over fifty concerts on the pedal piano, rediscovering graces present in the compositions of Schumann and Liszt, and inspiring contemporary composers including Ennio Morricone to compose new piano pedal repertoire for him to play. An active musical educator, Prosseda authored “Il Pianoforte” (Edizioni Curci, 2013) and created three documentaries for Euroarts, respectively devoted to Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Liszt.
His Decca albums dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn, including the Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly, have won much acclaim in the press, including the CHOC from Le Monde de la Musique Classique, the Diapason d'Or and Chamber Music CD of the Month in the UK's Classic FM magazine.
Other than Mendelssohn, whose piano music he is considered to be a leading interpreter of today, Prosseda's interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, and Chopin have been particularly praised, and these composers have in fact featured in Prosseda's recent Decca recordings. In 2015, Prosseda started the complete recording of Mozart's Piano Sonatas with a modern piano tuned with unequal temperament.
