Moorhen call and sound
Identifying Moorhen: it has an orange bill with a yellow tip. The common moorhen (Gallinula chloropus), also known as the waterhen or swamp chicken, is a bird species in the rail family (Rallidae).
Moorhens or sometimes called "marsh hens" are medium-sized water birds. Most species are placed in the genus Gallinula, Latin for "little hen". They are close relatives of coots. They are often referred to as (black) gallinules.
These birds are omnivorous, consuming plant material, small rodents, amphibians and eggs...
Feeding:
Moorhens will eat most foods, but duck food (wheat and corn mix) works better; they are also attracted to mealworms.
British Moorhens are highly sedentary, but are joined in winter by migrants from continental Europe. A familiar bird of our wetlands, the moorhen is often seen on park lakes, ponds and rivers. It spends more of its time out of the water than its relative, the coot, and even climbs trees.
