In Toronto, Mayor John Tory, Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s medical officer of health, Matthew Pegg, the general manager of Toronto’s Office of Emergency Management, and Joe Cressy, city councillor and chair of the Toronto Board of Health, provide an update on the city’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). Mayor Tory announces that he has asked the province to lower the minimum age eligibility for vaccinations at city-run mass-immunization sites to 60. Changes will also need to be made to the provincial booking system to allow residents to register for COVID-19 vaccination appointments. Tory says he hopes he will be able to announce details soon of when this will happen. The city also announces funding for community organizations to reach out to South Asian and Black communities to increase awareness around vaccines and combat vaccine hesitancy. Funding is also being provided for vaccine outreach programs for the disability community.
