Sloppy run but uh…I mean how else am I meant to showcase a tank build?

There've been a lot of videos recently showcasing so-called “unkillable” builds, investing every available slot into facetanking more damage than you could ever dream of facing in Apocalypse.

This is not one of those builds. This is intended as a more balanced build that can still tank a huge amount of damage, but doesn’t have the side product of well...making the boss unkillable too with how little damage you're doing.

Killing Sha'Hala in under 3 minutes isn't exactly speedkill territory but it is respectable. Meanwhile, our EHP will be at 516.7 without any shields, 1033 EHP with shielded heart active, and 1550 EHP with healing shield up as well. That's a very generous cushion if you play relatively smart and dodge at least some of the incoming attacks, and it shows here, taking a lot of punishment from a World Boss with Vicious (+15% damage) and Spiteful (up to +25% damage).

Archetypes:

- Engineer is a great pick for any tank build. Not only does it come with Fortify to boost your Armour DR, you get +15% flat DR just by being near your turret. With that +50% skill damage, we're going to mainly stay in Heavy Carry mode, which not only does great damage but also also grants you a very nice dodge with 14 iframes and a fast recovery. You will be locked out of using mods or skills for its duration though, but we'll build around that.

- We're shield tanking here, so Medic is a natural fit with its Healing Shield. Triage will also come in handy for boosting all the HP regen we're going to be relying on while we're in Heavy Carry.

Weapons & Mods:

- As with Havoc builds, fire-and-forget mods are the most useful for a Heavy Carry build, so I've gone with Nebula again for Swarm, with the Failsafe mutator.

- Firestorm doesn't work on Sha'Hala for whatever reason; Voltaic Rondure is our closest option, but I decided to just forgo a 2nd damage mod and keep Overflow for any emergencies. Song of Eafir would probably be a better pick for some extra survivability, though all our time in Heavy Carry means we'd only be using it sporadically.

- Our main weapon will actually be Vulcan - it's the best Heavy Weapon for hitting weakspots while on the move. In Overclock it can rival pure ranged DPS, so we're going to be aiming for as much OC uptime as possible...

Trinkets:

- I'm usually a big fan of Mechanic's Cog, but I'm dropping it here as I had a pretty specific OC CD I was aiming for. Instead, we're taking Black Pawn Stamp and Burden of the Stargazer - no room for Burden of the Rebel here as we're going to be chugging Shielded Heart in between OCs. Together with our relic fragment and Expertise, that brings our OC CD to 27s, so we can spend about half our time in OC. Nice.

- Our remaining trinkets are shield-centric - Rerouting Cable is an amazing way to build shield while in Heavy Carry, as simply sprinting or evading will be enough to grant some shield. This will be crucial for adding to our shields or keeping some shield up after Shielded Heart's 20s runs out. Together with Generating Band, this means we can just spam evades for heals and shields without ever dropping our turret.

- Energy Diverter will be our main damage source here, providing our only source of bonus crit as well as a tidy all-damage buff. Between Shielded Heart and Rerouting Cable, we should get near-constant uptime on this.

Traits:

- Vigor is doubly useful on shield builds as they not only boost your health, they also boost your shield strength.

- Fortify, and Barkskin to bring our DR up.

- Regrowth pairs well with Triage to give us good passive heals while we're in Heavy Carry.

- Footwork for strafing out of harm's way.

- Expertise for OC CDs

- We're going to be burning a lot of stamina to get shield, so Endurance and Recovery are essential.

Relic:

- Shielded Heart, obv. I've gone for 'damage' fragments here with Skill Damage, Weakspot and Skill CD, but if you feel you need more tanking, you can swap in Health, Shield Strength and Armour or DR frags.

Consumables:

- Mudtooth's Tonic to boost both our health and shields.

Armour:

- With all the time we're spending in Heavy Carry, we can go Ultra-Heavy for the DR without worrying too much about flops, and enjoy those great iframes.

Playstyle:

- You'll want to start thinking in terms of 25s rotations, which is how long Overclock lasts. Fire off your mods, chug your relic for the shield, then bring out the Vulcan and OC.

- The shield will last 20 seconds, so it will run out a little before OC does, so be ready to generate shield with one or two dodges from Rerouting Cable, or just exit OC early. Spam evade/sprint when low.

- Once OC is over, drop your turret, chug your relic to get more turret ammo and replenish your shields, then repeat.

- Healing Shield is there for emergency heals or tanking. Use at your discretion.
