I was driving down Eastbay in Largo Florida today when I saw this dog jump right in front of my car from a van doing about 25 MPH. Fortunately I was paying attention and not distracted or I could have easily ran him over. The dog became startled when the driver of the van hit the brakes suddenly so he just jumped out! As the dog ran around the front of the van, I was able to run around the back of the van and stop the traffic flying by in the left lane just as the dog ran out from behind the left side of the van.
The driver was handicapped and could not get out to chase the dog and it looked like this may have been his service dog. I was able to catch the dog and get him back in the driver's side door. The poor pooch had a few scrapes but was otherwise just fine, but it could have been so much worse. It is important to remember to make sure your dogs are secured and the window up some to keep something like this from happening. Let's keep those furry friends safe!
