When you first begin breast feeding your baby there are so many new things to get used to. Holding positions, frequent feedings, discomfort, not to mention hormonal changes and healing post delivery and exhaustion. Breastfeeding groups are not only for the early stages, but can be a wonderful resource as you are establishing nursing with your infant, especially if you have any frustrations or challenges.
What you can expect upon is arrival is to weigh your baby (leave the clothes and diaper on) and record to the ounce or half ounce. Then you can find a comfortable spot and when your ready you will feed your baby. There will be lactation consultants that usually spend a bit of time with each mom that can help you with anything and everything having to do with breastfeeding.
When you have finished feeding your baby you weigh the baby again-without changing a diaper even if its wet. This will help you establish how many ounces were consumed at that feeding.
You can expect open minded, kind women breastfeeding their newborn to toddler. You can expect tips, knowledge and suggestions and above all tons of support that your efforts are so worth it.
Send dad to get groceries or hang next door because men are not part of these groups to maintain privacy for the mommas
Don’t hesitate to visit a support group and support your friends and family in their decision to breastfeed their child.
