Behind every song are 90% diatonic chords. You need to be very familiar with these to help you tackle new repertoire, of any genre. Herein, we only discuss triads but I have a video on the 4-note chord version linked below. At least become familiar with C, F, G, Eb, Bb (and E, for a lot of pop music). Remember the triad template which applies to all 12 keys: major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, diminished (m b5), choose a key, get familiar, then start mixing them up. You'll be amazed how good it sounds once you get fluent. Enjoy!
