Where is Tarshish? Some people say it was somewhere around the island of Crete. Others say Tarshish was on the Iberian Peninsula, like the Southern Coast of Spain.

The most important thing to know about Tarshish isn’t exactly where is it. Instead, it’s the association it had for the ancient Israelites. It was far away. It was an exotic and mysterious place.

Most important, for Jonah, it was as far away as you could possibly get from Nineveh.
