In this episode of My Life in China, we're back with Richard Ramsundar, an AYC Educational Ambassador from New York City living and working in Li County, Changde, China.

It's spring in China! After a very mobile, exciting travel month, Richard spent some time hanging out in his small town enjoying the nicer weather. The city's residents have been spending much more time out and about taking in the good vibes after a long winter.

Richard takes a walk everyday in a nearby park and hangs with a lot of familiar faces. Unlike China's megacities, the small towns foster a very strong sense of community and are extremely welcome to newcomers. He's been playing ping pong with plenty of locals, getting tips from the young and old, and also practicing some Chinese martial arts.

At home, he continues to cook and improve his Super Smash Bros. game.

He also spends time at a nearby river, where people go to relax and escape the busier parts of town. People rent boats, fish, and some even swim. He hangs around the area practicing his Mandarin.

He's still biking around town and out into the country side, riding through farms and historical monuments, including a seemingly abandoned temple.

His friend Bi took him on a trip to a nearby town famous for having the most famous beef noodles in China.

The local nightlife is pretty mellow, as is usually the case in the smaller towns. It consists of a lot of karaoke (KTV), local musicians in local pubs, and late night snacks. Whereas in the bigger cities, such as Changsha, the nightlife is a lot more varied and bustling. Lots of music - local and foreign - bars, clubs, night markets, and many other happenings and events.

In the classroom, Richard is having a great time with a new group of students and just generally enjoying life in Li county.
