Dental plaque is an invisible film of bacteria that can develop in 24 hours on our teeth. This film is responsible, in part, for the formation of decay and gum diseases. For this reason, it is important to dislodge it completely every day. In order to do this, we must have a good brushing technique as well as a good method for flossing. We know that a good brushing is sufficient to remove most of the dental plaque. As for the remaining part, flossing alone can succeed in removing what has accumulated between the teeth. The technique used for flossing is simple: first we must take a good quantity of floss (the length of our arm is suggested). We then wrap it around our middle fingers in such a way that it is tight enough without putting pressure on the fingers holding it. The indexes and thumbs will be used to control the movement of the floss. It is important to avoid putting more than two fingers in the mouth at the same time. Eventually, the technique will become more and more natural, and soon you will not even need a mirror to do the work. If you lack manual dexterity or if you have difficulty flossing, you can purchase a flosser. This tool has been conceived to avoid putting fingers into the mouth. If you succeed in establishing this good habit in your daily routine, you will notice that your visit to the dentist will be shorter and much more pleasant.
