This video presents sissonne by Alina Cojocaru, Irina Kolpakova, and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
A sissonne (see-sown) is a jump from two feet to one foot (with a few exceptions) and is named after the originator of the step. There are many different types of sissonnes; Gail Grant’s Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet (Dover 1982) has 46 entries under “Sissonne.”
The first two clips present sissonne fermée. From the Grant dictionary cited above, it is “a step of low elavation performed to a quick tempo. This sissonne finishes on two feet with the working foot gliding along the floor into the demi-plié in fifth position.”
The first clip presents Alina Cojocaru of the Royal Ballet. The second clip is of Irina Kolpakova of The Kirov Ballet. According to the New York Times, she was one of the greatest of Soviet-era ballerinas with a number of awards for her dancing including the Order of Lenin and People’s Artist of USSR.
