The Minister for Europe said the last thing the present UK Government has been doing is "sitting on the fence", in response to GBC questions on the report published by the Foreign Affairs Committee. On his visit to Gibraltar, David Lidington stressed the importance of formal protests, and said the UK had not ruled out the possibility of taking legal action against Spain. However, he highlighted the EU Commission's role, saying he believed the quickest and most satisfactory outcome to the problems at the border would be "effective action" by the Commission.
