Izmir, Turkey is a popular city as it is close to the ancient Ephesus archaeological site and Pergamon Akropolis. It is also close to beaches and generally a backpacker-friendly city. If you plan to visit Izmir, here is some practical info to help you out.

🚌 How to Travel to and from Izmir
Reaching Izmir
There is a bus station in Izmir and you can get buses from all places in this city such as Istanbul, Bodrum, Antalya, Goreme, and more.
From Istanbul, the journey is generally 8-10 years so I would suggest you choose a night bus.
Although I had taken the Aydin Sehayat bus, I wouldn't suggest it because it was tremendously late plus they showed wrong timings on the Busbud website. Instead, opt for Kamil Koc as it is reliable and offers snacks to its passengers as well.
Leaving from Izmir
You can choose to buy bus tickets from the bus station or beforehand. Again, you will easily find buses to most places in Istanbul from here, especially if you are planning to travel from May.
🚌 How to Travel in Izmir
In Izmir, you can use public transportation i.e. buses, metros, etc. to explore or to the nearby cities.
There are also Uber and Getir taxis available that you can use to order cabs for your destinations.
🛏️ Where to Stay
There are many affordable hostels available in Izmir and I stayed in Lotus Grand Hostel which was comfortable and cozy.
It was located close to Basmane station (used for reaching Ephesus) and is in close proximity to several eateries and shops.
They also give you kitchen access where you can cook your own food to save some extra bucks when in Turkey.
🥙 Where or What to Eat
Cherry - If you are traveling to Izmir in summer, then you will find lots of cherry vendors here selling cherries for 8 - 15 TL (40 - 75 INR) per kg.
Getir - If you are feeling lazy and don't want to go out to eat, then Getir is a good app to download. You can not only order food using it but can also order groceries and cabs with it.
You will need a Turkish number to log in to the app.
Make Your Food - If you are staying in a hostel or Airbnb where you have access to the kitchen, then it is a great idea to prepare food here to save some money.
🇹🇷 Izmir People
One of the things that I loved about Izmir is the people that I met here, they were really kind and sweet.
This can driver dropping me off at the end of the trip was the sweetest and would offer me dry fruits to eat while trying to converse with me. 😄
While it can be a little difficult to converse when you don't have a common language, it is heartwarming to see Turkish people try and interact with the tourists in their city. :)
