This incredible marine reserve is bouncing back from the dead - and could help to show the world how to save our oceans from overfishing!
After industrialised fishing fleets caused fish stocks to collapse in the 1980s, Cabo Pulmo was almost empty of ocean life. But thanks to an incredible reef conservation programme, and being designated a marine protected area in 1995, Cabo Pulmo has seen a miraculous recovery in ocean biodiversity - becoming one of the most successful marine conservation initiatives our planet has ever seen!
Under 6% of the world’s oceans are designated as marine protected areas, but scientists recommend at least ⅓ of the ocean should be - allowing both local communities and crucial ecosystems to thrive in harmony.
