When replacing tapered pins on a mechanical clock movement don't just push the pin into place, cut the ends off and forget about them.
This is considered unsightly and poor workmanship.
Cut the pin to size, file the ends flat with a needle file, then use a pivot file to bevel both ends of the pin at approx. 45 degrees.
Never use brass tapered pins on a French movement, the originals were steel so replace them if necessary with steel pins.
We feature clock repair for beginners videos and advanced restoration techniques for antique mechanical clocks.
