This video shows three ways to check if an A/C compressor obtained from a junkyard is good or bad. The first step is a basic check, which gives you an idea of what issues the A/C compressor might have such as loosening, no sucking, and burning. Secondly, measuring the pressure generated by a drill can show the compressor capacity when compared to a new one. If an A/C compressor is worn out, it won't generate the right amount of negative or positive pressure when it is spun by hand or by a drill. Finally, the determination of resistance and engagement of a clutch assembly can determine if the clutch assembly works well or not.
If a used A/C compressor can generate around 30 over -20 psi, this compressor is good. If the resistance of a used compressor is less than 4 with engagement, the coil is in good shape.
I have gotten several A/C compressors from junkyards using this method to replace my damaged A/C compressors. These compressors are all good with no problems. Hopefully, this video can help you.
