Alright guys… I am going to give you the best and worst exercises to do, especially for us older men. Shoulder injuries take forever to recover from, whether it is from work, sports, etc. Now, let’s get to the exercise that you should do, and that you should avoid.
The first exercise you should do, especially to build some shoulder mass… LANDMINE PRESS. You want to do this exercise one side at a time, and you want to do it kneeling. This works your core, upper back, and promotes healthy shoulder movement. When you use a neutral position with shoulder exercises, it will alleviate a ton of stress on your shoulders.
The second exercise is a bigger bang for your buck exercise. SIDE-LATERAL TO-FRONT RAISES. You do a front raise then bring the dumbbells out to your sides like you're trying to touch the walls. Bring the weight down then you will do a side lateral raise, bring the weight to the front and back down. This is a bigger bang for your buck exercise.
Those are two exercises that you should do when working out your shoulders. Now onto two exercises that you want to avoid doing when working your shoulders.
The first and worst exercise you want to avoid doing is the BEHIND THE NECK PRESS. This exercise will wreak havoc on your shoulders. This is also bad for your neck because it will always push your head forward. Eliminate this exercise at all costs!
This next exercise might be a little controversial. I have done videos showing how to do this exercise the right way, but if you can’t do it with the right form...you should avoid doing this exercise. The UPRIGHT ROW when done correctly can be very beneficial. However 99% of people don’t utilize correct form, and for that reason I do not recommend doing this exercise. Especially if you do this exercise consistently, it will cause problems for your shoulders over time.
