Track 1 from their thirteenth album “Goats Head Soup” released in 1973 copyright Rolling Stones Records. It was recorded at Dynamic Sound in Kingston, Jamaica and mixed at Village Recorders in L.A. and Island Studios in London. It received mixed reviews and some critics saw it as the beginning of the band’s decline, since it had a slightly different feel compared to their previous string of four hugely successful albums. I consider it one of their best with very strong material that captures a specific period in time which was carefree and full of promise for the future, so it’s like an old friend. Mick has said that he poured his heart into this album, which strongly influenced its musical style and direction. Keith and producer Jimmy Miller had recently become less productive due to the worsening effects of their heroin addictions. The album reached No. 1 in eight countries and made the Top Ten in another four. It achieved Gold status in a month and was certified 3X Platinum in 2000. Yeah, Daddy
Oh, come to me
Now down in the graveyard where we have our tryst
The air smells sweet, the air smells sick
He never smiles, his mouth merely twists
The breath in my lungs feels clingin' and thick
Well, I know his name, he's called Mister D (Mister D)
And one of these days he's gonna set you free (set you free)
Human skulls is hangin' right 'round his neck
The palms of my hands is clammy and wet, Lord I was
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin') Lord, keep your hand off me
(Dancin' with Mister D) Lord
(With Mister D) well (with Mister D)
Will it be poison I put in my glass
Will it be slow or will it be fast?
The bite of a snake, the sting of a spider
A drink of Belladonna on a Toussaint night
Hidin' in a corner in New York City
Lookin' down a .44 in West Virginia, I was
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin') Lord, keep your hand off me
(Dancin' with Mr. D) ow
(With Mister D) woo (with Mister D)
(With Mister D, with Mister D)
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin') Lord, I was
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin') Lord, keep your hand off me
(Dancin' with Mr. D) Lord
(Dancin' with Mr. D) said Lord
One night I was dancin' with a lady in black
Wearin' black silk gloves and a black silk hat
She looked at me longin' with black velvet eyes
She gazed at me strange, all cunning and wise
I saw the flesh just fall off her bones
The eyes in her skull was burnin' like coals
Lord, have mercy, fire and brimstone
I was dancin' with Mrs. D, Lord I was
(Dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
I was (dancin', dancin') dancin' so free, oh
We're (dancin', dancin') dancin' so free
(Dancin', dancin')
(I was dancin', dancin') Lord, keep your hand off me
(Dancin', dancin')
(I was dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin') woo
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
(Dancin', dancin')
