Benny, Matt, Krish, and Brian take on the highest peak in West Virginia —— Spruce Knob! While this mountain is easily accessed by driving to the top observation tower and then parking at the upper trailhead, it still is not a hike for the novice backpacker. This is because “What goes down must come up.”
Day 1 - Park at the Spruce Knob observation deck.
Huckleberry Trail .6 miles to camp for the night!
Day 2 - Huckleberry to Lumberjack counter-clockwise. Somehow we missed the plane wreck! Down High Meadows Trail to Seneca Creek Trail.
South on Seneca Creek Trail about a mile to camp along Seneca Creek. 10 miles total and 500 ft elevation for the day!
Day 3 - South on Seneca Creek Trail to the bridge and then up Judy Springs Trail. Up Huckleberry (shortcut spur trail cut off about 1 mile of Huckleberry).
6.5 miles total and 2000 ft elevation for the day!
17 miles and 2500 ft of elevation total for the trip.
