Born in 50 AD in Guiyang, China, Cai Lun was a eunuch during the Han Dynasty. Little is known of his early life, but he is famous for inventing papermaking techniques. Cai Lun's innovations revolutionised the production of paper, making it more affordable and widely available.
Cai Lun's most significant achievement lies in his refinement of papermaking methods. He experimented with different raw materials and processes, eventually developing a technique that used mulberry bark, hemp, old rags and fishing nets. His invention changed the way information was recorded and disseminated, paving the way for the spread of knowledge and culture throughout China and beyond.
