Australia have taken out a silver medal in the men's quadruple sculls after failing to catch defending Olympic rowing champions Germany in a thrilling final on Day six.
The Australian team were favoured to break their Olympic rowing gold medal drought after a picking up a bronze in London but the Germans came out strong and maintained their lead from start to finish.
The crew of Karsten Forsterling, Alexander 'Sasha' Belonogoff, Cameron Girdlestone and James McRae mounted a late challenge but couldn't make up the ground and finished 1.15 seconds behind their rivals.
The Germans stood and held their oars in the air to celebrate as Estonia pulled in to take the bronze.
The men were all smiles as they stepped up on to the podium to claim their silver medals, with Germany exuberantly throwing their hands up as the crowd cheered.
The Australian team won Bronze at the London Olympics and claimed silver in the World Championships this year, where they qualified for Rio.
The rowers were originally scheduled to compete on day five of the Rio Games but were pushed back after poor weathe
