The Bartlett Experimental Forest is an actively researched section of the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. This terrestrial field site covers almost 16 square kilometers of mixed forest that was heavily logged until the beginning of the 20th century. Scientific research has been conducted at the site since the 1930s, with research focusing on forest dynamics and management, wildlife ecology, and remote sensing. A 116’ tall flux tower rises above to canopy to collect meteorological data and a series of 5 soil plots are placed within the tower airshed to collect data at the surface and sub-surface of the site.
